Speed Breeding: Accelerating Crop Improvement
Introduction Speed breeding is an advanced plant breeding technique that enables researchers and breeders to grow multiple generations of crops within a single year. By optimizing environmental conditions such as light duration, temperature, and humidity , this method drastically shortens the crop growth cycle , allowing faster development of improved crop varieties. Speed breeding plays a key role in modern agriculture, especially in the face of global food insecurity and cl
Integration of Artificial Intelligence in Plant Breeding
Introduction Artificial Intelligence (AI) is rapidly revolutionizing every field of science, including plant breeding . By combining advanced computational power, data analytics, and machine learning algorithms, AI enables breeders to analyze complex biological data, predict genetic outcomes, and make faster and more accurate breeding decisions. The integration of AI in plant breeding marks a new era of precision agriculture  and data-driven crop improvement , essential for f
Genomic Selection: The Future of Plant and Animal Breeding
Introduction Genomic selection (GS) is a breakthrough innovation in modern breeding science that uses genome-wide DNA markers to predict the genetic potential of individuals. Unlike traditional selection methods that depend only on visible traits or pedigree data, genomic selection  applies advanced molecular and statistical tools to estimate performance even before traits are expressed. This approach has revolutionized plant breeding , animal improvement , and forestry resea
CRISPR: A Revolutionary Gene Editing Technology
CRISPR, short for Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats , is one of the most groundbreaking innovations in modern genetics. This powerful gene-editing method  enables scientists to precisely modify DNA sequences in living organisms. Since its discovery, CRISPR has reshaped research in biotechnology, agriculture, and medicine , allowing scientists to improve crops, cure diseases, and understand genetic functions more deeply. What Is CRISPR and How Does It W
Plant Breeding and it's importance
Plant breeding is a branch of agricultural science that focuses on the genetic improvement of plants to meet human needs. It involves the art and science of changing the traits of plants to produce desired characteristics, such as higher yield, better quality, resistance to diseases and pests, and adaptability to diverse environmental conditions. In simple terms, plant breeding is the systematic process of developing new plant varieties that are superior to existing ones. At

Managing locust and grasshopper with portable electric net
Highlights ·      Locust is a global pest of wide economic importance. ·      An innovative way of managing locust and grasshopper with a portable electric net is identified. ·      Portable electric net was tested against grasshoppers in the field and was found promising.  Abstract Locusts are a voracious pest of agriculture and are found in different parts of the world. Several strategies have been developed to manage locusts, but they are still out of control due to th
An agro ecological method of managing fall armyworm Spodoptera frugiperda (J.E. Smith) larvae by interrupting locomotion action over maize (Zea mays L.) leaf surface
Key Messages  ·      Nepalese farmers meet a destructive pest in maize crop, the fall armyworm larvae from 2019. ·      Mostly conventional chemical control methods are unable to cope the problems and shows adverse effects to the environment. ·      A water insoluble and lubricating agent like grease applied to the infested maize whorl and crop damage significantly reduced after 8-10 days. ·      The grease treated plots had no crop damage which might be due to restrict
Protocol for monkey, blue bull and wild animal repellent
Steps 1)Â Â Â Take a small bottle of size 60-100 ml. 2)Â Â Â Fill the bottle with about 12-15 ml tri methyl amine (TMA) and the cover the bottle tightly to prevent the spread of smells. 3)Â Â Â Place the bottle containing TMA in the center of the field. The TMA rate should be at least 15 ml per 700 square meters. 4)Â Â Â Make a hole (0.1-0.2 mm diameter) on the cover of the bottle to spread the odor slowly. 5)Â Â Â Within 15-20 minutes, the odor starts to spread in the field. The stron

DNA Extraction and Fingerprinting: Protocol
1 Plant Genomic DNA Extraction  The genomic DNA from each genotype is isolated from young leaves of 20 days old seedlings grown in the field. DNA is extracted from genotypes using CTAB (Cetyl tri methyl ammonium bromide) method (Doyle and Doyle, 1987). The list of buffers and stock solutions is given as follows: 1.1) 1M Tris-Cl buffer, pH 8.0, 100 ml 12.114 g Tris base is dissolved in 80 ml autoclaved distilled water. The pH is adjusted to 8.0 with 6N HCl and the final volume
